Information

We were founded in 2011 initially as a small training group of Under 8 players under the name of ASAP FC. Shortly afterwards we were invited to become affiliated to Welwyn Garden City FC and so Welwyn Garden Citizens Youth FC was born.

In 2012 we moved to our new home pitch, adjacent to the senior pitch at the ground of Welwyn Garden City FC in Herns Way.

We expanded at the start of the 2012-13 season and entered two Under 9 teams and one Under 8 team to play fixtures in the Mid Herts Rural Minors League.

For the 2013-14 season we changed our name to Welwyn Garden City Youth FC to align ourselves even closer to the senior club.

In the 2014-15 season we ran 8 teams in the Mid Herts Rural Minors League spanning the Under 7 to Under 11 age groups. 

Prior to the start of the 2015-16 season we were approached by many coaches from the former Gosling Youth FC and after very positive discussion many of them elected to join our club. For the 2015-16 season we had 20 teams representing the club.

During the summer of 2016 we held talks with Sir Frederic Osborn School with the intention of bringing all our teams to play at the school playing fields. These talks proved to be very positive and we now call Sir Frederic Osborn our home, with our spiritual home of Welwyn Garden City Herns Lane just a stones-throw away. 

For the 2016-17 season the club grew to by 24 teams spanning the U7 to U13 age ranges with an U18 side also playing in our club colours.

2018 saw the creation of our new club values of Pride, Respect and Teamwork. This are collectively known as “The Welwyn Way” and underpin the behaviours we expect everyone to follow at all times. 

At the start of the 2018/19 season we grew to 38 teams representing us and celebrated this landmark by being award Charter Standard Accreditation by the FA, showing that our club meets the governing body criteria for a well organised club with a desire to develop our players at the heart of all we do. 

In the summer of 2019 we launched our new club crest, which was worn on our first ever bespoke kit, designed especially for our players. This new rebranding exercise included a revisioning of our club values, the creation of the central part of our crest called ‘Utopia’, which was also included on our specially designed numbers on the reverse of our shirts.
